Beverley Parklands Care Home, North Humberside

Beverley Parklands Care Home in North Humberside has been rated outstanding by healthcare regulator the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Inspectors visited 17 & 21 September 2018 and rated Beverley Parklands Care Home as outstanding in three areas, the caring, responsive and well-led aspects of the report, and good for the safe and effective elements.

Beverley Parklands Care Home is a residential care home providing personal care to people, some with dementia aged 65 and over.

The service and its staff went the extra mile to enhance the lives of people who used the service by ensuring people had everything they needed to continue enjoying their lives. A 'Make a Wish' project had been introduced to offer people the opportunity to carry out aspirations they had.

One person inspectors spoke to had always wanted to do a sky dive and had achieved this using a virtual reality headset system. The resident said, "I felt free and I cannot wait to tell my family I have done a sky dive. They won't believe me."

Other people had been on safari and walked the Great Wall of China using this technology.

Each person had been awarded a certificate of achievement after they had completed their wish. A virtual reality (or VR) headset is a device that you wear over your eyes like a pair of goggles. It blocks out all external light and shows you an image on high-definition screens in front of your eyes.
