Cleeve Lodge Care Home, Reading

Cleeve Lodge in Reading, Oxfordshire gets awarded outstanding in four key areas, by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).


Outstanding ratings were given in the effective, caring, responsive and well-led aspects of the report and the safe aspect was rated good.


The routine inspection took place on 28 February 2019.


Cleeve Lodge is a residential care home that was providing personal care to 22 people aged 65 and over at the time of the inspection.


Staff were encouraged to develop their skills and achieve nationally recognised qualifications. The provider was extremely supportive and had spent time going with a member of staff to college to support them when they were having difficulties with the college work relating to a management development programme.


There was an outstandingly caring culture that was promoted and embedded at every level. Without exception everything the service did was to enhance the lives of the people living there and their families. Staff were committed to providing an exceptional service and did so with kindness and compassion.


Residents and their relatives told CQC inspectors that staff regularly went the extra mile to ensure people felt loved and cared for. One relative said, "Staff consistently go 'above and beyond' in their care of the residents.”


People received person-centred care that truly valued them as individuals. Staff had detailed knowledge of resident's histories, their likes and dislikes and how they wished to be supported. This information was used to support people in a way that valued them as unique individuals and respected them for who they were. Staff went to great lengths to ensure they knew people well and spent time with people when they first moved to the service to get to know them.


CQC inspectors also highlighted thatresidents were exceedingly positive about their lives at Cleeve Lodge.


One resident said, "It is the best possible place I can be. There is wonderful management. They are there to help in every possible way.”
